We Care We Share is a faith-based nonprofit powered by dedicated volunteers, committed to uplifting individuals and families in need throughout Lorain County.
We meet immediate needs and foster long-term stability by providing:
A weekly food pantry to combat hunger
A weekly clothing closet to restore dignity and meet essential needs
The My House program, offering transitional housing and comprehensive support for young adults (ages 18–24) experiencing homelessness
Through My House, participants receive safe housing, mentorship, counseling, educational and employment support, and life-skills training—empowering them to build independence and a brighter future.
Our Mission
“We believe that strong families build stronger communities.”
Our History
In 2014 the city of Lorain gifted WCWS its current property at 1888 E. 31st, which at that time consisted of two abandoned buildings. Thanks to the gracious and hardworking efforts of a team of volunteers and very generous donors, WCWS was able to restore those buildings to better serve the surrounding community. One building continues our original mission to serve as a food pantry and clothing closet while the second building, an old beautiful Victorian home has transitioned from its original purpose as a community drop-in center to a home for youth aging out of the foster care system called My House.
In 2019 a greenhouse was donated and has become a working garden that produces an abundance of vegetables, expanding our ability to feed the hungry and teach valuable lessons of community and nurturing.
We Care We Share continues the mission of its founders, relying on the generous support of individuals, businesses, organizations, and grants to continue to respond to the community’s greatest needs.
Our ministry is a faith-based food and clothing closet in South Lorain that was started in 2007 by the late Peggy & John Hurley. Their goal was to fill a void in the city of Lorain when its only food pantry shut down.
They started their ministry in an old school building on E.32nd St. until it was set to be demolished, forcing them to move a church across the street. In 2009, it was at that church that they became a 501(c) 3, extending their services to include health & nutrition classes, health fairs, and more. A short time later they would move to an old corner store on E. 29th until finally planting their roots in their current location on E. 31st.
